Project in the spotlights: Cobalt Box Self Storage
Smart industrial construction for a modern self-storage environment
Cobalt Box develops and operates modern self-storage facilities. These storage units can be rented by both private individuals and businesses. Efficient use of space, robust constructions and smooth accessibility are key requirements.
For its new location in Machelen, Cobalt Box therefore sought a construction partner who fully understands these needs and can translate them into a high-quality, integrated industrial solution.
Choosing Willy Naessens Industrial Buildings was the logical next step. The client was looking for an experienced and professional partner with a strong reputation in industrial projects and a proven approach.
“We experience the team as highly committed, knowledgeable and solution-oriented, and we are particularly positive about their approach and the way the project is managed,” says Christophe Friling of Cobalt Box Self Storage.
Project features and technical challenges
The Cobalt Box project is being realised in a flood-prone area, which required a well-considered structural solution. The ground-floor slabs are supported by beams, allowing water to flow freely underneath the structure in the event of flooding. This maximally protects the building against potential water damage, without compromising stability or functionality.
The building consists of four floors, all fully fitted out as storage units.
In-house realisation within the Willy Naessens Group
One of the major strengths of this project is its in-house realisation, through close collaboration between various partners within the Willy Naessens Group. This ensures smooth coordination, short communication lines and continuous quality control.
The works were carried out as follows:
- Assembly: Willy Naessens Industrial Buildings
- Earthworks: Willy Naessens Infra
- Concrete columns and beams: Concreton
- IC beams: Megaton Ninove
- Slabs: Structo
- Smooth concrete walls: Seveton
- Lift and stair tower: Megaton Oudenaarde
- Aluminium exterior joinery: supplied and installed by Willy Naessens Alu
Thanks to this integrated approach, the project was completed efficiently and according to schedule.
Architecture and visualisation
The design and architectural development were carried out in collaboration with Vertongen Architecten, who were also responsible for the project’s visual renders. These images clearly illustrated the concept and functional layout of the building and supported smooth coordination between all involved parties.
Cobalt Box in Machelen is a fine example of how Willy Naessens Industrial Buildings successfully translates complex boundary conditions — such as building in a flood-prone area — into a sustainable and functional industrial solution.
This project highlights our strengths:
- technical expertise in industrial construction
- in-house realisation
- strong synergy within the Willy Naessens Group
- a professional and solution-oriented approach
With Cobalt Box, we once again add a future-oriented and high-quality reference project to our portfolio, fully aligned with the needs of the end user.
